Lapis lazuli has been worn in the belief that it will protect the wearer from evil. Wearing it is thought to aid with insomnia and depression. It is also know for creating openness and truthfulness. 

This gemstone is typically found as boulders or within limestones. The finest quality comes from Afghanistan, but is also found in Argentina, Chile, and the USA. Its intense dark blue is made more interesting with its veins of pyrite and calcite. In jewlery designs, it goes equally well with gold and with silver.
